Garvey|Simon established the Select exhibition in 2016 to create a meaningful platform for dialogue between artists and galleries—an exchange long discouraged within traditional gallery practice. In the past, galleries were inundated with unsolicited slides; today that volume has simply shifted into an avalanche of emails. Neither approach serves artists or galleries particularly well.
We believe artists need a professional platform through which they can engage with dealers who might not otherwise encounter their work. Select was developed to provide that opportunity: a structured process through which artists submit work for thoughtful review and consideration.
Selected finalists are invited to meet privately with us to discuss their work and its potential inclusion in the exhibition. Since its inception, Select has led to numerous lasting partnerships. Several participating artists—including Margot Glass, Karl Hartman, Eileen Murphy, Linda Kamille Schmidt, Sarah Brenneman (two-person exhibition), Kristy Gordon, and Linda Lindroth—have gone on to present solo exhibitions with Garvey|Simon, while many others continue to collaborate with us in group exhibitions and projects.
Select continues to serve as an important point of discovery for artists whose work aligns with the gallery’s program.
